Why is it important to learn about different cultures? Does it really matter? Why should we take time off to learn about a person who is different? What does this do for us? These are very important questions which are asked frequently. I think we all are different but are the same at the same time. We might have different beliefs or opinions but we are all humans. I believe it is important for people to learn about other cultures because it teaches us we really aren’t different, teaches us to respect different individuals, and it prevents us from being prejudice to certain ethnic groups. (孩子們欣賞Shiela老師帶來的菲律賓舞蹈) Teacher Danny from class 4 taught different countries and their foods. He played many funny games that the kids enjoyed a lot. He also brought her friend Jerry who is a mouse puppet, to introduce with the kids. Jerry(voice by Danny) called her friend Simba(voice by Miss Kaniz) who is also a puppet and he came far away from Kenya to join the English corner activity with PMIS kids. They love the puppet show very much that they couldn’t stop themselves laughing. (Danny老師帶着他的好朋友Jerry和 Simba來到蒲園,給孩子們帶來樂趣,帶他們認識各國的國旗,介紹了各國代表性食物(wù)。) Miss Kaniz from class 3 showed how to make sandwich by ourselves without any help of the teachers and parents. After watching Miss Kaniz’ instructions the kids felt so confident that they made their sandwiches by themselves, ate and shared with their parents. They felt more happy and proud of themselves and went back to the class rooms with full of inspiration and curiosity about different countries and cultures. 上周五,你來了嗎(ma)?
Puyuan Montessori International School (PMIS) gives more importance to learn about geography and culture. So we have the topic of ‘different countries and their traditional food’ for the English corner activity on October 27th.In this activity teachers shared a basic knowledge about different cultures. But they will elaborate this topic in the classroom.
So, we listen to different kinds of music, we eat different foods, we most likely even speak a different native language but are we really so different? Humans beings are more alike than unalike and what is true anywhere is true everywhere.
